Office 365 Backup
Microsoft recommends third-party backup in its Services Agreement.
Microsoft 365 operates on what is known as a ‘model for shared responsibility’. This model determines that Microsoft
is responsible for its global infrastructure and will ensure that Microsoft 365 remains accessible, however clients are
responsible for the data which is stored using the infrastructure made available by Microsoft 365.
Microsoft’s default data retention policies are limited and Microsoft 365 does not automatically include a complete backup
and recovery strategy to protect your Microsoft 365 assets.

What About Onedrive?
Using OneDrive as a form of backup can result in data loss. If a file is deleted or infected on a local drive, the change is
automatically synchronised in OneDrive and all synced devices.
